Modernism: Suicide of Art?

In the art of radical modernism, everything that had been painted and depicted previously was replaced by exhibited reality. Painted landscapes gave way to designed real-life landscapes, living bodies replaced portraits or, as Günter Brus put it, “the canvas reverted to the human body.” The Neue Galerie in Graz reflects this fundamental change from representation to reality with works in the collection from 1800 to the present day.
